Types of Vehicle Warranties
Mechanical Breakdown vs. Wear & Tear Auto Warranties
Which type of coverage is the best for your car?
Here’s the thing – you want car warranty coverage for both!
Many times the extended warranty sold by your car dealer is a mechanical breakdown insurance plan that can cost you over $4,000. This is not the policy you want. You need both “wear and tear” and “mechanical breakdown” coverage.
Most vehicle warranty breakdowns are from wear and tear, so low-priced car warranty companies will throw out your claim, calling it “wear and tear.”
Before buying an extended car warranty, it’s important to vigilantly review what is and is not covered; make certain “wear and tear” claims are included in the contract.
Standard wear and tear problems include:
- gradual decline in operating performance
- damage caused by overheating
- worn rings
- burned pistons
- burned/worn valves/guides
- valve grinding
- seepage of seals and gaskets
- fasteners and retainers (nuts, bolts, screws, clamps, brackets)
